Is " Microsoft Tech.ed 2010-Sri Lanka" successful?

Microsoft Tech.ed 2010 was held at Waters Edge on last February 8-10.As I am working with JAVA related technolgies, I was seeking to have a change and Fortunately I got a sponsorship from my working place to participate for the event.I thought It would be a great chance to find new features related to MS Technologies.I went to WatersEdge on 8th morning and as usual I saw some Microsoft's marketing stuffs and all. However I got the registration tag and wear it and particpated for the opening ceremony. The theme of the Tech.ed was "Challenge Your World".So I was more enthusiastic to particpate for the sessions since the opening ceromony was really amazing.

First session I participated was regarding the new features of MS SQL Server, but the harsh truth is it was unsuccessful session due to various reasons such as demonstrator couldn't run his illustraions and all.Later I got to know that the person who did the session has not a good history in the industry as well. The entrance fee for Tech.ed was 12000/= and I felt all the sessions will be like SQL Server session. But fortunately Prasanna Amirthalingam did his two sessions at his best. His sessions were regarding MS WCF and Entity Framework and those two sessions were really amazing to participate. The other important session conducted by the world famous security expert Bruce Schenier and his session was focused on the philosphy of the security and not on the computer security. But it was really worthwhile to listen and had some good facts to think twice. But other than those sessions, unfortunately there was no other important sessions in the Tech.ed.

So I feel personally that If somebody paid 12000/= of his own money, then there was nothing to satisfy on you for that amount. So,easily you can find all the facts which mentioned on other sessions thorugh googling or MSDN.Furthermore, I got to know that there was a restricion by Microsoft,Sri Lanka to limit the session conducting only for foreign people. But the harsh truth is We can find more resources from Sri Lanka to fulfill the Tech.ed's needs. The best examples for these is Dinesh Priyankara's SSRS lab session and Prabath Fonseka's Workflows lab sessions. Finally I felt there was a good initiative by organizing that Tech.ed, but if there was a good management and if they tried to find the experience and relevance of the people who did the sessions, then the Tech.ed 2010 could be a more succesful event.

However, As usual in Microsoft events, food was excellent and the party was really amazing to enjoy. :D
